I'm nowhere near your level, but maybe this could help. Try playing songs (like RHCP for example) like you're playing live with the band. This means you're playing for RHCP fans, so you can focus 100% on the song and what it needs instead of relying on what you are used to play on a daily basis. I remember that helped me when I was learning how to play power metal and since I had a rock-grunge background I had no idea what I as doing lol. Anyway, I'm a longtime subscriber and it's always nice to watch you play.

Heel-toe is honestly so lame. Idk why, I just can't get over it. I've seen Romain FLY with singles. Looks cooler, is cooler, and more legitimate to be able to do something not too many people can do. Anyone with time can play 250+ BPM with doubles. Not much time either

I’m glad it’s not just me having trouble with this. “Panic” is the word I’d use to describe a similar feeling I get when having to attempt to lock into the repetitive approach that is just the expected norm in metal now. I can’t fully describe it but it’s also made me so uncomfortable that I’ve almost quit my band and quit drumming a few times now. Something isn’t quite right with the way we approach modern metal drumming and it has almost completely killed my love of drumming and even made me stop listening to music because even hearing drums at all just sets of this irritation and rage that I have nowhere to direct. As with everything in the digital world we now inhabit, small amounts of an interesting innovation have swung completely out of balance. I don’t know when sounding like a drum machine became the standard that our ears have grown to expect. From an athletic/sport perspective it makes sense but I can’t for the life of me figure out how anyone ever thought it was a pleasant sound to chase.
